Sleep Dentistry

Sleep dentistry is a medical procedure called Intravenous Sedation (I.V. sedation) that allows patients to be sedated for their treatment.

I.V. sedation is administered by a qualified anaesthetist here at our practice, who will monitor the patient throughout the procedure.

Sleep dentistry ensures our patients are comfortable, relaxed, and pain free during their dental treatment.

Who can benefit from sleep dentistry?

  • Patients who are anxious about dental procedures
  • Patients who dislike having injections in their mouth
  • Patients who become stressed and uncomfortable during procedures

How can sleep dentistry help you?

  • It can reduce the awareness of sights, sounds, and smells.
  • It eliminates the pain of instruments and drilling.
  • It allows you to relax.
  • It allows longer, multiple procedures to take place, saving you additional appointment time.

What treatments can sleep dentistry be used for?

Sleep dentistry can be used for several dental treatments. The main purpose of sleep dentistry is to enable the patient to receive the dental care while feeling relaxed, comfortable, and pain free.

Relative Analgesia

Relative Analgesia (or Nitrous Oxide) is an alternative to I.V Sedation. It is administered by a mask through a mixture of Oxygen and Nitrous Oxide gas which allows the patient to feel relaxed, whilst still being concious throughout the procedure. The effects of Nitrous Oxide only last during inhalation and patients can usually drive home within 30 minutes of the procedure. Relative Analgesia is beneficial for patients who are anxious undergoing dental treatment.
