At Lynwood Dental Centre, we offer dentistry treatments that focus on the general maintenance of oral hygiene and tooth health. These services include the following:
We can provide you and your family with regular examinations to help maintain oral hygiene and tooth health. We also have an on site dental therapist who can help you with any minor dental hygiene issues. We provide reminder calls every six months.
If you have problems maintaining normal oral hygiene or if you have recurring oral health issues, Dawn, our dental therapist, can assist you by explaining techniques and practices to help maintain good oral health.
Tartar and calculus deposits naturally form on teeth. If the calculus is allowed to accumulate, it will provide the right conditions for bacteria to thrive next to the gums. The purpose of scaling and polishing is to make the surfaces of the teeth clean and smooth so that bacteria is unable to stick to them. This professional procedure enables you to keep teeth clean during your regular home care.
Scaling involves the removal of hard calculus deposits, usually using an ultrasonic scaler. Polishing is done using a slow speed hand piece with a soft rubber cup that spins on the end. Prophylaxis paste, a special, gritty toothpaste-like material, is scooped up like ice cream into the cup and spun around on the teeth to make them shiny and smooth.
If you have a cavity, we can fill them using materials that are cosmetically sensitive. This means that they are not made of silver-colored material (amalgam), which is noticeable, but tooth-coloured material. The materials used may be advanced composites, glass ionomer, or hybrid materials. We have not used amalgam (mercury) fillings for over twenty years.
Alternatively, we may use porcelain inlays, made of inert materials, using advanced computer-aided design and manufacturing technology. These inlays are very strong and can be constructed and fitted in just one visit.
Crowns are typically used to build up decayed teeth, and some adults prefer to alight a crooked tooth with a crown rather than with protracted orthodontics. Using our CEREC CAD/CAM system, we can design, create, and fit a new crown in a single visit, saving you time and the inconvenience of wearing a temporary crown.
Oral surgery: We conduct all forms of oral surgeries, such as tooth extractions.
Root Canal Treatment (Endodontics): Endodontics is the treatment of a dead or dying tooth. The roots of the tooth are cleaned out and packed with an inert material and endodontic cement to prevent further infection. We carry out most endodontic procedures at Lynwood Dental Centre but may refer complicated cases to a specialist endodontist.
Dentures: We have associated dental technicians, who are qualified prosthodontists who are able to assist with construction and maintenance of dentures.
Dental Implants: The field of creating and fitting dental implants has become complex, so we typically refer our patients to an appropriate specialist. Dental implants are a permanent and fixed solution to missing teeth and are an alternative to a bridge or denture. A titanium screw is placed in the jaw bone to replace the tooth's natural root. Over a period of three to six months, the bone grows around the screw and holds it firmly in place. A crown is then placed onto the fixed screw to replace the original natural tooth.
