Invisalign straightens teeth using clear, customised, removable appliances called aligners instead of the visible wires and brackets associated with traditional braces. As the aligners are nearly invisible, most people will not even know you are in the process of straightening your teeth.
The Invisalign System uses advanced 3-D computer graphics to custom-design aligners that are precisely calibrated to fit your mouth at each stage of treatment. Each aligner is made of smooth plastic and worn for approximately two weeks, moving your teeth in small steps. After two weeks, the aligner is removed and replaced with the next aligner in the series. The total number of aligners in the series is based on your individual treatment plan and can range from 12 to 48 aligners.
The average Invisalign treatment for adults lasts only 12 months. To begin the process, visit Lynwood Dental Centre and we will determine if Invisalign is the right choice for you. If it is, then we will take x-rays, photographs, and impressions of your teeth. We will create a precise treatment plan, mapping out the exact movement of your teeth, and send this information to Align Technology, the company that produces Invisalign. They will use these instructions to manufacture your individualised aligners.
Starting with the first aligner in your series, you will wear an aligner all day and can remove it for eating, brushing, flossing, and special occasions. After two weeks, you will replace the first aligner with the next in the series. Your teeth will move gradually, week by week, as each aligner does its job. Approximately every six weeks, you will have a checkup at Lynwood Dental Centre to make sure your teeth are moving according to plan.
