Replacing a full arch of teeth

A good treatment plan starts with a discussion about your teeth, your health and the choices available.

A treatment plan built around you.

Full-arch implant options replace a complete upper or lower set of teeth with a restoration supported by several implants. An assessment considers your remaining teeth, gums, bone, bite, medical history and the kind of replacement that may suit you.

Full-arch implant treatment is provided at Lynwood Dental Centre. We discuss whether this approach is appropriate, what it involves and the alternatives before you decide.

All-on-4 and All-on-X: understanding the terms.

All-on-4® is Nobel Biocare’s specific treatment concept using four implants. The broader term “All-on-X” describes full-arch approaches with an individually planned number of implants. The number and position of implants depend on your clinical assessment and planned restoration—not simply a label.

Your consultation brings these options into focus, with the proposed system, materials and restoration selected around your individual assessment.

Assessment and digital planning.

We discuss your priorities, examine your mouth and assess which teeth can be preserved. Digital scans can help plan your care. Where 3D X-rays are clinically indicated, we arrange imaging with an external provider.

Planning software and a surgical guide may be used to help coordinate the implant position with the proposed replacement teeth. Your written plan sets out the treatment stages, restoration options, costs and ongoing care.

Treatment stages and timing.

Treatment may involve preparation or removal of teeth where necessary, placement of implants, healing, and fitting and reviewing the replacement teeth. Your dentist explains the sequence relevant to you.

For suitable patients, a temporary fixed bridge may be fitted soon after surgery, depending on the clinical conditions and implant stability. Healing and review follow, with the final restoration fitted at the appropriate stage of your individual plan.

Comfort and sedation arrangements.

Tell us about any concerns or previous experiences with dental treatment. Sedation can be organised where suitable. The available options, assessment, arrangements, costs and any escort or aftercare requirements are discussed before treatment. Sedation also has risks and is not suitable for everyone.

Benefits, risks and alternatives.

A fixed full-arch restoration may help replace missing teeth, but surgery and lifelong maintenance require careful consideration. Risks include pain, swelling, bleeding, infection, damage to nearby structures, nerve or sinus complications and implants failing to integrate. Inflammation around implants can also damage the supporting tissues and bone over time. Replacement teeth or components may also need repair or further treatment.

Discuss retaining treatable teeth, removable dentures and other suitable replacement options, including the option not to proceed. Ask about the full costs and what is included at each stage, rather than comparing a headline price alone.

Looking after your implants and replacement teeth.

Daily cleaning around implants and beneath the restoration remains important. We explain the cleaning methods appropriate for your design and arrange professional reviews based on your needs. Tell us if you notice discomfort, bleeding, looseness or difficulty cleaning.

Ongoing reviews help us assess the implants, supporting tissues and replacement teeth. Your care plan includes maintenance and discusses any repairs or adjustments that may be needed over time.
