Dentures and replacing missing teeth
A removable denture is one option for replacing missing teeth. It may be considered alongside bridges or implants, depending on your mouth and preferences. A consultation gives you the opportunity to discuss fit, appearance and everyday function, and understand which options may suit you.

Full, partial and implant-retained options
A full denture replaces teeth across an arch; a partial denture replaces some teeth while others remain. An implant-retained removable denture connects to implants for support or retention. This differs from fixed implant teeth that you do not remove yourself. The options have different cleaning and maintenance needs.
Discuss fit and function
Tell us how an existing denture feels when speaking and eating, whether it moves and where it rubs. The appearance of replacement teeth matters too, but comfort and the condition of the supporting tissues need assessment. Bring the appliance to your appointment so it can be examined with your mouth.
Adjustments are part of the conversation
A new appliance can take time to get used to, and reviews or adjustments may be needed. If teeth have recently been removed, changes during healing can affect the fit. Ask how these changes will be managed and what follow-up is included in the proposed plan.

Keep the appliance and mouth clean
Remove a removable denture to clean it, and clean your mouth and any remaining natural teeth as well. Use the method recommended for its materials and any attachments. Avoid hot water, which can distort the appliance. Ask about cleaning products and overnight care rather than assuming a product suitable for one denture suits every design.
Keeping the fit comfortable
Your mouth can change over time, so regular reviews help check both the fit of a denture and the tissues beneath it. If the appliance rubs, moves or is damaged, arrange an assessment. Professional adjustment is safer than trying to alter or repair it at home.
Choosing what works for you
Ask about likely appointments, costs, future adjustments and alternatives before deciding. If implant support is being considered, it also needs a separate suitability and risk discussion. We can help you understand the options without assuming that the most complex treatment is the right one.
Can dentures be worn straight after teeth are removed?
An immediate denture may be an option in some cases, but planning and adjustments during healing are required. Your treating clinician will explain whether it is appropriate.
Should I follow the usual home-care guide after surgery?
Follow your personal postoperative instructions first. Routine denture-care advice may need modification while tissues heal.
